Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital employees lead effort to purchase backpacks for kids
Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital employees once again are spearheading an effort to purchase and fill up backpacks to deliver to local students. The supplies will be delivered to kids in kindergarten through fifth grade in the Valley View Public School District 365U. Donations are being collected through Aug. 10.
Last year, hospital officials dropped off more than 100 supply-filled school backpacks for students in the Valley View Public School District 365U. This is the fourth year hospital employees spearheaded the community effort and they hope to collect even more backpacks than last year.
“The needs of the community are even greater this year than last with the recent economic downturn,” said Kathy Mitchell, vice president/ chief nursing officer at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital. “We hope to collect so many backpacks to help so many children that my long bed truck won’t even be able to hold all the backpacks we collect. I am prepared to pull a horse trailer to the hospital if that is what we need to carry them all.”
Community members are encouraged to donate school supplies or backpacks. Cash donations are also welcome.
