Michael J. Goebel, Chief Executive Officer, Adventist Hinsdale & Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospitals
Michael J. Goebel joined Adventist Midwest Health in March 2010 and currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Adventist Hinsdale and Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospitals. Goebel previously served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the organization.
In his role as CEO, Goebel is responsible for leading the strategic direction of the organization, with a focus on driving growth and improvement, developing and executing a strategy and vision and fostering a mission-focused culture. He continues to concentrate on enhancing medical staff relationships, growth and improvement in physician engagement, preparing the organization for population health and building relationships with community leaders.
With more than 25 years of executive-level health care experience, Goebel led the hospital through an organization assessment, a strategic planning process and the development of a $48 million outpatient facility to include cancer services currently under construction. His prior work experience includes serving as COO of Littleton Adventist Hospital in Colorado and CFO of the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Goebel obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska and a master’s degree in business administration from Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago. He is also a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).
He and his wife Lori live in Hinsdale and have two daughters, Lauren and McKenzie.
Mike Murrill, Chief Operating Officer
Mike Murrill started his career within Adventist Health System at Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver, Colo. He completed the two year administrative residency program at Porter and stayed on for three more years working in business operations. He then worked as finance manager at Avista Adventist Hospital in Louisville, Colo., before coming to Illinois, where he was the finance manager at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital.
In 2011, Murrill joined Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital as CFO where he partners with leaders to deliver quality and efficient patient care. His natural charisma and team-building style make him a skilled and respected team member. His contributions go beyond the bottom line; he is an avid supporter of community events and blood drives.
He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Mich. and earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Colorado.
Mary Murphy, Chief Nursing Officer
Mary Murphy, RN, MSN joined Adventist Midwest Health in 2001 and currently serves as regional vice president and chief nursing officer. Murphy previously held the director of emergency services title before being promoted to vice president and chief nursing officer at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital.
Not only does Murphy act as the regional vice president overseeing the four Midwest Adventist hospitals, she currently acts as the chief nursing officer at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, where she is not only responsible for nursing practice, she also participates in the overall management, planning and policy making of the hospital. She also handles the development of nursing objectives, the management of nursing care and ensures the provisions of quality nursing care for all patients.
With more than 30 years of nursing experience, Murphy had oversight over all clinical operations and was instrumental in planning and developing a new $10 million no-wait emergency department in 2007. Her prior work experience includes serving as director emergency services at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago and senior flight nurse/educator at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill.
Murphy holds a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in nursing from Loyola University and an associate degree in nursing from Morton College.
Murphy is a local resident.
Rebecca Mathis, Chief Financial Officer
Rebecca Mathis was appointed chief financial officer of Adventist Hinsdale Hospital in January 2011 and took on the same role for Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital in August 2012.
She previously served as Adventist Midwest Health’s regional controller and has been with the organization since May 1997.
In her role, Mathis leads all strategic and tactical matters related to budget management, cost-benefit analysis, forecasting needs and all other financial needs of the hospital.
With 20 years of experience in health care — 17 with Adventist Midwest Health —she has held a number of positions with the organization. She started her health care finance career with Health Care Service Corporation as a Medicare auditor in 1994.
Mathis has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Benedictine University in Lisle. She is also a certified public accountant.
Mathis lives with her husband and their two children in Burr Ridge.
