What is the Magnet Journey?

Magnet Status is recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) awarded only to health care organizations that have demonstrated an environment of excellence for nursing practice and patient care.

Magnet hospitals have better patient outcomes and higher levels of patient and nurse satisfaction than non-Magnet hospitals. Magnet is a seal of approval of quality nursing care. To date, only 397 of the approximately 5,000 hospitals in the United States have achieved Magnet status. It’s a rigorous process, but Adventist Hinsdale Hospital is on its way!

What Are the Objectives of Magnet?

The goals of the Magnet program are to:

  • Promote clinical quality
  • Improve patient outcomes
  • Support excellence in nursing

What Does Magnet Do For Nurses?

Magnet principles make a nurse’s job easier and promote professional development by:

  • Providing a supportive environment for nurses
  • Encouraging ongoing education and career development
  • Creating better relationships and communication between patients, physicians and nurses
  • Increasing the respect nurses receive throughout the hospital
  • Improving patient and staff satisfaction
  • Creating an environment of trust, transparency, empowerment and support for nurses
