Clara L. Carls, D.O.,

Dr. Carls completed her residency training at the Chicago Osteopathic Hospital in Hyde Park. After graduation, she practiced in a high volume multi-specialty group for 9 years in the southern suburbs of Chicago. In 1998 she joined the Hinsdale Family Medicine Residency as Medical Director and was named Hinsdale Family Medicine Attending of the year in 1999. She became Program Director in December 2002. She recently completed the National Institute of Program Director Development.

Kate Gunnell, M.D., MPH, FAAFP, Director of Education

Dr. Gunnell completed her residency in Family Medicine at the University Hospital/Case Western Reserve University in 1993. After completing a fellowship in Maternal/Child Health at Brown University in Providence, RI, she became family medicine faculty at Rush-Illinois Masonic, where she served as teaching faculty and director of Obstetrics. During this time she earned a Masters of Public Health from Harvard University in 1995. She joined the Hinsdale Family Medicine Residency in 2003 where she is currently, the Director of Education.

Zewdu Haile, M.D.,
Medical Director

Dr. Haile completed his residency at the Royal College of Obstetrics/Gynecology in London, England in 1990. He also completed a family medicine residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago in 1995. He then served as faculty at the Mount Sinai Family Practice Residency until 2004. He joined the Hinsdale Family Medicine Residency in 2004. Currently, he is medical director of the two residency clinics, The Hinsdale Family Medicine Center in Hinsdale and in Bolingbrook.

Leslie Sleuwen, M.D.,

Dr. Sleuwen completed her residency in 1998 at Deaconess Family Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. After finishing her training, she joined the faculty at Deaconess Family Medicine. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Chicago and joined the teaching faculty at Hinsdale Family Medicine Residency in 1999.

Dr. Netteland completed her residency in 2003 at Hinsdale Family Medicine Residency (HFMR) in Hinsdale, Illinois. After spending time in private practice, she returned to HFMR to practice and teach. She coordinates the internal medicine curriculum.

Dr. Walinski completed her residency at the Hinsdale Family Medicine Residency in 2002. Following her residency training, she joined HFMR as full-time faculty in late 2002. Currently, she serves as a faculty recruitment advisor and coordinates the pediatric curriculum.

Tony received his graduate education at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration. His career spans more than 30 years and has included private practice, supervision, and management positions in a number of agencies.

Donald Bennett, M.D., PH.D., Teaching Faculty, Pharmacology, Research Coordinator

Dr. Bennett has his Ph.D. in Pharmacology. Prior to his residency, Dr. Bennett held a position as Director of Biosilicon Research, for Dow Corning in Michigan. He completed his family medicine residency in 1976 from Midland Hospital in Midland, Texas. Following his residency, he joined the teaching faculty of the Hinsdale Family Medicine Residency.

Dr. Di Iorio received his D.C. degree from the National College of Chiropractic Medicine and practiced as a Chiropractor for five years. Upon completing his residency at Hinsdale Family Medicine Residency (HFMR), he went into private practice and joined HFMR in April 2003 as a part-time faculty.
