Glendale Heights – For a few years after she sold her own pharmacy, Registered Pharmacist Judy Lubinski worked with a large commercial pharmacy chain.
She was busy, but the work did not make her happy. The job did not allow her to work directly with patients, making sure they understood what was prescribed for them and how the medication should be taken.
“The patient load was just too heavy to allow for that,” Lubinski said. “People need time with a pharmacist. They need that personal touch.”
The Clarendon Hills resident was again able to provide that personalized service after she joined the staff of Adventist GlenOaks Hospital
. For her efforts in providing such care to the hospital staff and patients, Lubinski has been recognized as Adventist GlenOaks Hospital’s 2013 Employee of the Year.
“Judy is extremely concerned about the health of our patients and our employees,” said Bruce C. Christian, chief executive officer at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital. “On any given day, you can find her in the Outpatient Pharmacy
dispensing not only medication, but also educational information to people.”
Lubinski remembers every person she fills a prescription for, said Vipul Bhatt, pharmacy director at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital. And everybody remembers the good experience they have with her.
“Judy runs our pharmacy as if it were her own shop,” Bhatt said. “She handles the entire operation and she works closely with every patient that comes to see her.”
Lubinski became a pharmacist 36 years ago expressly to provide people with assistance. For 17 years, Lubinski owned her own pharmacy in Clarendon Hills, a location she ran along with her husband. She’s been at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital for the past four years.
“I see a lot of patients from the neighborhood picking up prescriptions. People really like to have someone here to help them with their medication,” Lubinski said. “I have people I see all the time. It’s like being part of a big family and I enjoy taking care of them all.”
She admits that insisting on close interactions with people might be an old-fashioned way of doing things, but providing a personal touch is why she has remained a pharmacist.
“Being here allows me to focus on providing that custom service,” Lubinski said. “And it was truly an honor to be recognized as Employee of the Year.”
