GlenOaks Hospital Foundation started the New Year on a happy note with a $4,000 donation from a very grateful patient. On May 12, 2005, Rasik Mangukiya’s son, Kush Mangukiya, was born at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital. Mangukiya, who was living in Bloomingdale at the time of his son’s birth and has since returned to India, sees children as a blessing from God. He was pleased with the quality of respectful care his family received from hospital staff.
“Giving birth to a baby is a holy deed,” Mangukiya said. “I was impressed with Adventist GlenOaks Hospital. I believe that the doctors and nurses care a lot and that we were in very safe hands.”
Mangukiya had immediately wanted to donate to the hospital, but at the time he did not have the monetary means to accomplish it. Although six years have passed and his son was no longer a baby, once Mangukiya had the financial capacity to give, he gave quickly and generously.
“Donating to the hospital was always on my mind,” Mangukiya said. “Everything happens at the right time and place.”
Michelle Kallevik, executive director of the GlenOaks Hospital Foundation, was inspired by Mangukiya’s story.
“To know our hospital impacted someone halfway around the world says a lot about the care we provide at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital,” Kallevik said.
Mangukiya hopes that, in the future, he will be able to donate again.
“Adventist GlenOaks Hospital is very important in my life because it gave me happiness,” Mangukiya said. “I cannot forget that. GlenOaks Hospital will remain as a good memory in my heart for a lifetime.”
