Glendale Heights – Adventist GlenOaks Therapeutic Day School presents “Camp GO!” summer day camp for children with emotional and attentional needs. Both “Junior Camp GO!” for students age 8 to 12 and “Senior Camp GO!” for students age 13 to 17 are designed for students who require additional structure during the reduced schedule of summer school. Camp GO! has been offered since 2002 and historically enrolls up to 15 children.
Junior Camp GO! participants will enjoy trips to area arcades, sporting events, museums, water parks, zoos and educational tours. Senior Camp GO! participants will learn life skills through community involvement. Activities include social skills groups, recreational activities, outdoor education, fishing, hiking and nature studies, field trips and outings, social skills training and outdoor sports. All activities are supervised by nationally certified recreation therapists.
Both camps are scheduled 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays June 16 to July 31 at the Therapeutic Day School north campus, 135 N. Brandon Drive, Glendale Heights. Depending on enrollment, additional camps for each age group could be scheduled Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays Aug. 3-14.
“Camp GO! gives these kids an opportunity to experience new, fun activities under the supervision of trained adults who can give them the individualized attention they need,” said Kristen Jakubowski, lead recreational therapist at Adventist GlenOaks Therapeutic Day School. “It brings additional structure to their day during summer break, which is less structured than the regular school year.”
