Screenings, consultations on tap at free health expo
Glendale Heights – Screenings, wellness booths, massages and health consultations will be offered at a free event presented by Adventist GlenOaks Hospital. The 2nd Annual Heart Expo will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 27 at Statford Square Mall in Bloomingdale. February is American Heart Month.
The event is sponsored by the hospital’s Heart & Vascular Institute in partnership with 100.3 WILV, 101.9 FM The Mix and Stratford Square Mall.
“Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and is a major cause of disability,” said Dr. Aziz Ahmed, an interventional cardiologist who is medical director of Adventist GlenOaks Hospital’s cardiac catheterization laboratory. “The more knowledge you have on how to prevent it, the healthier you can be.”
The most common heart disease in the U.S. is coronary heart disease, which often appears as a heart attack. In 2009, an estimated 785,000 Americans had a new coronary attack, and about 470,000 will have a recurrent attack. About every 25 seconds, an American will have a coronary event, and about one every minute will die from one, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
