Physicians receive awards for outstanding work

The Adventist GlenOaks Hospital administration recognized 12 physicians for their dedication to the hospital and the incredible work that they do every day.  These doctors carry out the hospital’s mission and provide excellent care to all of their patients.  Nominations were submitted by employees at the hospital. The physicians were acknowledged at the hospital’s recognition ceremony held May 14.

Darien resident Dr. Aziz Ahmed, an interventional cardiologist, was recognized as Physician of the Year.  He received the most overall votes from hospital staff for the award and is described by his peers as being “a true gentleman who is always compassionate while explaining procedures to patients.”

Ahmed has worked with Adventist GlenOaks Hospital since 2006 and is currently the medical director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory. Under his leadership, the hospital was accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers, a recognition that ensures patients receive specialized care during the critical early stages of a heart attack when treatments are most effective and are monitored throughout their stay to ensure proper care.
“Since I have been here, my goal has been to expand the Chest Pain Center,” said Ahmed.  “We want our patients to know they can receive the most advanced care here at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital.”

Chief Executive Officer Brinsley Lewis says Ahmed goes above and beyond his duties as a physician.  He is constantly helping other employees and is an asset to the hospital.

In addition, Dr. Joseph Lagattuta, a gastroenterologist, received the Medical Staff Leadership Award.  Lagattuta served as Medical Staff President from 1993 to1996 and is currently a member of the Midwest Region Board of Directors and the GlenOaks Hospital Foundation Board.  Currently, he is the Director of Medical Affairs and sits on at least eight other committees.

“I was immediately drawn to Adventist GlenOaks Hospital,” said the Itasca resident.  “We have worked very hard to improve the quality and reputation of this hospital.  There is definitely an opportunity to make a difference here.”
According to Lewis, Lagattuta is a team player and truly believes in Adventist GlenOaks Hospital.  He is extremely compassionate and takes the quality of his patient care seriously.
