According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 25.8 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes, representing a little more than 8 percent of the total population. Of these, 7 million people remain undiagnosed.
An estimated 79 million people are considered pre-diabetic.
“The number of people with diabetes in this country continues to grow,” Panicker said. “The only way to combat this growth is through education, and teaching people how they can better care for themselves, to avoid a diabetes diagnosis.”
