Hillside resident named Adventist GlenOaks Hospital’s Employee of the Year

Glendale Heights – Excellence in all job aspects is so important to Adventist GlenOaks Hospital staff pharmacist Charly Abraham that he freely shares his cell phone number with his colleagues, including those outside his department. He’d rather receive a phone call afterhours than risk unanswered questions regarding patient medications because patient safety is paramount.

“Clear and open communication makes the work easier for everyone and cuts down on patient errors,” the 32-year-old Hillside resident said.

Hospital administrators recognized Abraham’s dedication and commitment to patient safety by naming him the 2009 Employee of the Year. Adventist Midwest Health’s annual Employee of the Year celebration was held Feb. 10 at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Oak Brook. Each hospital Employee of the Year receives a plaque and a $1,000 check.

Abraham came to Adventist GlenOaks Hospital nearly five years ago and thoroughly loves his job. His work duties include dispensing medication, patient education, and drug review. He shrugs off compliments and instead channels the praise and credit to the highly qualified people who surround him.

“I learn from them, too, and by talking with the other people I meet,” Abraham said. He feels honored by the award, but believes anyone at the hospital could have received it. “It’s a blessing to work at an organization with such a devoted staff.”

Abraham’s genial personality is one of the reasons so many people appreciate him, according to his supervisor, pharmacy director David Tsang.

“Everyone who works with Charly gets along with him,” Tsang said. “He’s energetic, highly reliable, and very accountable. He accepts responsibility.”
