Hospital employee honored for 45 years, sons soon to follow

Hinsdale – After leaving his home in Peoria as a 20-year-old, Eugene “Bud” Beechler traveled to Hinsdale and began working as an orderly at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital.  He could not have imagined that this seemingly temporary job would be where he would find a new place to call home.  Eventually, Beechler discovered his calling in respiratory therapy and has since devoted 45 years to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital.

Beechler was recently honored for his dedication to the hospital at the annual Adventist Midwest Health service awards.  According to the Palos Park resident, he enjoys his current role as a clinical instructor of respiratory therapy.  This position allows him to work with three students a semester by teaching them the basics of respiratory therapy.  Beechler is able to guide them as they get hands-on respiratory therapy experience.

“It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day routine of a job,” said Beechler.  “But as a clinical instructor, my students remind me of how lucky I am to have found something that I really enjoy doing.”

Beechler’s sons Michael and Brian followed in his footsteps by becoming respiratory therapists at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital too.  Michael was also honored at the event for 20 years of dedication and hard work.
“Working at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital has brought me a lot of joy,” said Beechler.  “I’ve made a lot of friendships that have lasted for more than 30 years.  It’s been great to have my sons here as well.”

Currently Beechler is semi-retired and works 20 hours a week.  He says he looks forward to working another five years here to make it an even 50 years at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital.  During his free-time, Beechler enjoys spending time with his wife.  Together they have four children and six grandchildren.  All were born at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital.
“It is a tremendous blessing for our Adventist Hinsdale Hospital family to have dedicated employees like Eugene,” said David L. Crane, chief executive officer of Adventist Hinsdale Hospital.  “I truly appreciate the many years of hard work Eugene and his sons have given our hospitals.”

More than 350 employees were recognized for dedicating 10 or more years of service to Adventist Midwest Health. Employees received gifts and were recognized at the organization’s annual service awards dinner, held April 16 at the Doubletree Esplanade Lakes in Downers Grove.
