Doctor welcomes delegation from China
Hinsdale – Dr. John Chi-Yuan Liu, who treats patients at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, welcomed a delegation of health professionals from China to Family Health Care in Hinsdale Nov. 27. The group toured the medical office to observe firsthand the operations of a typical U.S. medical group practice.
Accompanied by a translator, the 17 multidisciplinary health professionals said they were impressed at how easily necessary information flowed from Adventist Hinsdale Hospital to the office as well as among the different departments in the office. Members of the group also were amazed that a group of five doctors had their own office space. In China, Liu said, healthcare is delivered from a central location.
In addition, the group was impressed with the doctors’ training, their use of electronic medical records and the fact that Liu and the other physicians at Family Health Care typically treat 15 to 20 patients of all ages in a single day.
“They were very interested in the way we charted and ordered medicines and procedures such as X-rays,” Liu said.
A former Adventist Hinsdale Hospital patient who does business in China recommended Family Health Care to the delegation. Liu was happy to accommodate the visit.
“If this visit helps my colleagues from across the world deliver better medical care, then that’s a good thing,” Liu said. “We can all learn from each other.”
