Adventist St. Thomas Hospice Tree of Remembrance on display

Photo of the Tree of Remembrance.Hinsdale – More than 700 individuals will be memorialized as part of the Tree of Remembrance, an annual tribute presented by Adventist St. Thomas Hospice and BMO-Harris Bank in Hinsdale.

A tradition that began in 1993, the Tree of Remembrance is illuminated each year from Thanksgiving through New Year’s on the corner of Lincoln and First streets in front of BMO-Harris Bank. Any community member may honor a deceased loved one by making a contribution to Adventist St. Thomas Hospice.

The memorial names submitted with these donations will be written on the Tribute Boards displayed alongside the tree.

The Tree of Remembrance is a project of St. Thomas’ bereavement services department, which offers free counseling and support programs for hospice families and community members who have suffered a recent loss. Tree of Remembrance gifts fund a large part of these bereavement programs.

“The holidays are a time for reflection, and many people are looking for a meaningful way to remember loved ones who have died,” said Rosie Cohen, the hospice’s bereavement coordinator. “Our annual Tree of Remembrance is a wonderful way to honor them while supporting bereavement programs like the Tommy’s Kids Summer Camp. Many families tell us that visiting the tree has become a family tradition.”

Gift envelopes are available inside the BMO-Harris Bank of Hinsdale, or by calling Adventist St. Thomas Hospice’s bereavement department at (630) 856-6993.

Donations may also be mailed to the attention of Tree of Remembrance at Adventist St. Thomas Hospice, 119 E. Ogden Avenue, Suite 111, Hinsdale, IL 60521 and should include the name of the personal being remembered.

The hospice is part of Adventist Midwest Health and serves patients and families in DuPage, eastern Kane, northern Will and western Cook counties. It is certified by Medicare and accredited by the Joint Commission.
