The hospital is hosting the event in relation to the Forward Initiative, a program being run by the DuPage County Health Department focusing on obesity, said Ronda Klocko, marketing manager at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital.
“Obesity is a national epidemic,” Klocko said. “We wanted to create a program to help make a difference for people.”
The hospital has also held other programs in the past focusing on weight management and obesity, Klocko said. For instance, at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, the hospital will host Surgical Options for Weight Loss. The program will review gastric banding, surgical options and provide an overall description of the lifestyle changes necessary following surgery. Past patients will share their experiences.
The goal is to help people live healthier.
“We’re here for people when they need us, but our goal is not just treat people, but to help keep them well,” Klocko said.
In the United States, 68 percent of adults and 31 percent of children are overweight or obese. “The Weight of the Nation” looks at the obesity epidemic and what can be done to fight against it.
The four-part series was produced by HBO and the Institute of Medicine, in association with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health, and in partnership with the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation and Kaiser Permanente.
The documentary includes case studies, as well as interviews with experts and people struggling with obesity.
