The center offers state-of-the-art neonatal services for premature and critically ill newborns, so that separation of mother and baby can be prevented during this critical time. Highly trained specialists in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center develop personal and individualized management plans to guide expectant mothers through their high-risk pregnancy. The Center’s multidisciplinary team of specialists provides a support network to help families make important healthcare decisions.

More than 25 percent of the 3 million women who give birth each year are considered high risk. High-risk pregnancies must be followed closely to prevent, detect or manage any problems, and the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center is focused on managing women with high-risk pregnancies who have any of the following complications:

• Chronic medical problems
• Complications in a prior pregnancy
• Current pregnancy complications
• Need for specialized prenatal diagnostic/antepartum testing

Specialized services offered at the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center include:

• Pre-conception counseling
• High-risk pregnancy consultations and co-management of complicated pregnancies (including multiples)
• Genetic counseling
• First trimester screening and sequential screening for Down Syndrome 
• Amniocentesis
• Antepartum testing (including non-stress tests, biophysical profile and Doppler evaluation of fetal circulation)
• High-resolution ultrasound
• Routine obstetric ultrasound
• Diabetic education
