Hinsdale – A Lyons
Township High
School sophomore who has volunteered at Adventist Hinsdale
Hospital for more than a
year was recognized as the hospital’s junior volunteer of the month of September.
Lauren Moberg, 15, of Western Springs, delivers flowers at the hospital once a
week after school. Previously she volunteered at the information desk in the
hospital’s main lobby and in the maternal-fetal medicine department. She has
accumulated nearly 100 volunteer hours.
“Bringing in a pretty bouquet of flowers really
brightens up a patient’s day – especially moms who just had a baby,” Lauren
said. “That’s what I like best about volunteering at the hospital.”
Lauren also is a member of the hospital’s junior
volunteer leadership council. Members of the council represent the interests of
all the junior volunteers to the junior volunteer coordinator, advise the
coordinator on various aspects of the program, work on special projects, and
serve as co-chairperson of one of four committees (orientation, fundraising,
awards program, and social event and newsletter).
At school, she is a member of student council, Italian
club, peer leadership, LTTV and the soccer team.
“Lauren likes being with people and loves to make
their day better by being there for them,” said Jennifer Swanson, coordinator
of the hospital’s junior volunteer program.
