Hinsdale – Adventist Hinsdale
Hospital has been
re-designated with a Level III standing for obstetric and neonatal care,
hospital officials announced. This designation by the Illinois Department of
Health certifies that Adventist
Hinsdale Hospital
offers the highest degree of quality care for high-risk moms and high-risk
newborns, with 11 Level III NICU beds.
There are currently three levels of nurseries in
the United States
– Level I, II and III. Level III nurseries provide the widest variety of
advanced care available for all newborns. Adventist
Hinsdale Hospital,
part of the University
of Chicago Perinatal Network,
was first designated as a Level III obstetric and neonatal care center in 2000.
“This re-designation assures that we will continue providing
the best care to our tiniest patients and their families,” said BettySue
Netzel, the hospital’s director of women and children’s services.
Re-designation typically takes place every three years.
IDPH surveyors visited Adventist
Hinsdale Hospital
in October to inspect the facility and its equipment, review charts and
question nurses and other medical team members on proper protocol.
“Our Level III status allows patients to stay in
the community to receive the highest quality obstetric and neonatal care,” said Dr.
Daniel Gauthier, a maternal-fetal medicine physician.
The neonatal intensive care unit is part of the
hospital’s Birck Family Women’s and Children’s Center, a comprehensive program
providing top-level maternity and neonatal care. The Maternal Fetal
Medicine Center
provides state-of-the-art care to women with high-risk pregnancies.
