Teen Volunteers

Becoming a teen volunteer for Hospice is a terrific way for a teen to gain meaningful experience through volunteer work, as well as, to give back to their community. The next teen volunteer training session will be held on Tuesday, October 11th, 2011 from 7-9pm at our office located at 119 E. Ogden Avenue in Hinsdale, 60521. A short pre-training interview is required so please call or email to register.

Furthermore, by becoming a teen volunteer for St. Thomas Hospice, teens are exposed to many different educational experiences that will benefit them in the future.

Teens can choose to volunteer in a variety of capacities for St. Thomas Hospice. After attending the mandatory training session, some teens wish to volunteer one on one with a Hospice patient. Once they are assigned to a patient in their area they make weekly friendly visits to this individual that may include reading to them, reminiscing about the past, playing music or assisting them with yard work or household chores.

Teens can also choose to volunteer at group events. Teens meet at the Hospice office once a month to create craft projects that the Hospice nurses then deliver to the patients. Other group events include ice cream socials at local Healthcare facilities, flower and candy deliveries, murals, Bingo and Craft projects, Fundraisers and Holiday Caroling.

If interested please call or email Heather Kochen at (630) 856-6985 or heather.kochen@ahss.org
