Our History

The roots of Adventist Midwest Health run deep in the communities we serve.  Consisting of four hospitals in the western suburbs of Chicago, Adventist Midwest Health began more than 100 years ago when Adventist Hinsdale Hospital was founded by Drs. David and Mary Paulson (pictured right).

The Paulson’s were Seventh-day Adventist physicians working in the tenements of Chicago with the poor and orphans.  They had the vision of opening a facility in the country that would provide patients with “fresh air, sunshine, suitable exercise, pure water, a wholesome diet, a beautiful outlook and a mind a peace with God and man.” Opening in 1904 as the Hinsdale Sanitarium, today Adventist Hinsdale Hospital stands as a monument to the Paulson’s unfailing faith and dedication.

Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital has served its communities for more than 50 years, Adventist GlenOaks Hospital (Glendale Heights) for over 25 years, and the opening of Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital expands the services provided to its communities for over 25 years by the Adventist Bolingbrook Medical Center.  Our hospitals continue the Adventist tradition of meeting patients’ emotional and spiritual needs in addition to their physical needs.  This mission reaches beyond the front doors to partner with community organizations to provide health services, educational programs and support groups that promote better health.
