Collection Practices

Adventist Midwest Health's collection practices are based on a partnership between the hospital and the patient. This partnership is crucial in determining the patient's ability to pay their hospital bill, working out payment arrangements and qualification for discounts or charity care.

At numerous points along the process of the patient being admitted to the hospital and receiving the first communication from the Patient Business Office, every attempt is made to identify patients who qualify for charity care or discounts for the uninsured. A contact telephone number for Financial Assistance is included on every patient bill, in both English and Spanish. Information about our Financial Assistance policies is displayed in all patient registration areas, again in both English and Spanish.

The collection agencies that care for our patient accounts also work to identify any patients who may qualify for charity or discounted care, even though their account is in the collections process.

Our collection practices prohibit property foreclosures and bench warrants.

Ensuring our future

Through all of the challenges faces by our hospitals, the guiding principle remains the same—strengthening of our mission. Financial, political and societal climates are constantly changing, and it is clear that numerous challenges facing the healthcare industry are here to stay. But our determination to confront and conquer each new obstacle is equally enduring.

With prayerful guidance, Adventist Midwest Health has sought to quickly respond to predict and adapt to future trends. Through vigilant stewardship of our hospitals, compassion for those in need, the continuing commitment to high standards of quality, employee relationships and fiscal responsibility, Adventist Health System is well positioned to continue to use its resources to extend the ministry of the Master through the legacy of healing.
