Incontinence/Pelvic Muscle Dysfunction Treatment
Weakness of the pelvic floor muscles due to pregnancy, childbirth, surgery, or normal aging process can result in urine leakage. Once infection or other medical process is ruled out, these problems can be treated with physical therapy.
Physical therapy treatment is performed in a private treatment room. Biofeedback is used to assist the patient in locating and strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. Patients have one session weekly and perform a Home Program three times a day. Education in lifestyle changes also contributes to the recovery process. Results can be seen in one to two weeks. Most patients require three to eight sessions until they are dry. For more information, contact Adventist Paulson Rehab - Willowbrook at (630) 856-8200.

Functional Capacities Assessment
The Occupational Rehabilitation Program of Adventist Paulson Rehab Network offers the Functional Capacities Assessment (FCA) to identify a person's capabilities in regard to return to work, for daily living tasks, or to assist in disability rating. The goal of the FCA is to identify the employee's/client's safe, maximum, physical capabilities.
This information can then be used for return-to-work planning or disability assessment to identify a safe work area for an employee and for case management and resolution. The employee/client is made aware of safe capacities for all aspects of life. Insurance adjusters/rehab counselors use this information for case management and resolution.
The FCA is a two-day test involving testing of 21 different tasks. Test items may be added or deleted depending upon client's diagnosis or job demands. A two-day protocol is used to assess the effects of the first day of testing on the second day and to observe consistency of performance. The testing protocol does not allow unsafe behaviors. The client also receives education in anatomy and posture.
The Functional Capacities Inventory, a two-page summary of the client's performance, is sent to the referring physician within two days of testing. For more information, contact Adventist Paulson Rehab La Grange at (708) 245-7900.
Work Hardening
Adventist Paulson Rehab's Work Hardening Program offers a variety of services to facilitate safe and expedient return to employment by the individual whose work role has been disrupted by illness or injury.
Evaluation and treatment services are provided by occupational and physical therapists under the order of a licensed physician.
Work Hardening is therapy designed to restore job-related capabilities. Upon referral, each client receives a thorough evaluation to identify problems. Targeted work positions are identified and analyzed for tasks as they relate to musculoskeletal capacity. Treatment plans are then designed to facilitate goal accomplishment.
Program activities may include work simulation, general conditioning, and progressive resistive exercise, as well as exercises specific for the area of injury. Clients may also participate in group problem-solving and education sessions.
Therapeutic intervention strongly emphasizes resumption of responsible work behaviors and utilization of safe and efficient work techniques. Time frames are established for goal achievement and progress is continually assessed and communicated to all involved in the rehabilitation process within established guidelines for protection of patient privacy.
The Work Hardening Program is a daily program beginning at two hours/day and increasing up to six to eight hours/day. Service hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
